Valencia is Spain's 3'rd largest city (after Madrid & Barcelona). Sightseeing around the city starts in the old quarter. Until the mid nineteenth century the old quarter was protected by a massive wall, today only it's towers Torres de Serranos, Torres de Quart and a few remains of the wall are left in the basement of the Valencia Institute of Modern Arts (IVAM). The most artistic heritage can be found areas of Seu & Xerea, where marks left by the Romans lie hidden under the ruins of Arab churches and Palaces.
Valencia is most commonly recognized as being the home of some of Santiago Calatrava's most amazing buildings. An entire area of the city named "City of Arts & Sciences" has been designed by him which consists of a science museum, an IMAX cinema, an oceanographic park, all of which look completely science fiction and not quite from this world. Numerous films and commercials have been filmed here due to the inspiring and modern surroundings created thanks to Calatrava.
