Gay Homestays accommodation network lists gay and lesbian guest house, bed and breakfast, tourist apartment and private gay accommodation in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This tropical South American jewel, Rio de Janeiro, boasts one of the world's most open attitudes toward sex and sexuality making it the perfect gay destination. Rio de Janeiro is everything you would expect from a Brazilian city: buzzing with life, steamy and vibrant. Rio’s gay life is centred around the Ipanema suburb and the neighbouring Leblon district where there is a plethora of gay venues such as gay bars and restaurants |
Rio’s beaches are among its greatest attraction with the best-known being Copacabana. Adjacent to Copacabana is the Ipanema gay beach. The gay sun-worshiping crowd is concentrated near Rue Farme de Amoedo, also called Farme Gay, where the muscle men and pretty boys flock. You will recognise it from the rainbow flags and the thousands of hot guys standing between the umbrellas, showing off their suntans and biceps. This section of the beach has a relaxed and flirty atmosphere. Don’t be afraid to flirt with the locals. Brazilians are friendly and curious about foreigners.
Stay on the beach till late: the moment the sun sets behind the mountains is always a magical end of a great day at the beach. This time of day is perhaps the best time to plan your evening (which in Rio stretches into the next day). To find out what’s happening on any given night, just grab flyers from any of the many gay party promoters who come out to the beach to promote their events.
The gay nightlife in Rio starts very late, so don’t expect the bars to fill up before midnight. There is not a specific area, though most of the popular gay bars are situated in either Ipanema or Copacabana. Taxi's are inexpensive, so be sure not to walk from one bar to another late at night. Huge parties hosted by DJ celebrities are now a big feature of the Rio scene. Perhaps the most popular gay club is Le Boy Located near Posto 6 in Copcabana, however the new club The Week, downtown in Centro, attracts the biggest crowds, up to 3000 people during the weekends. The pool located outdoors gives a tropical charm to the place. It is a place full of beautiful people, the place to see and be seen.
Gay Pride is celebrated yearly in Rio de Janeiro. It is estimated that over 2 million people attended in 2010. The centerpiece of the Gay Pride festival is the Gay Pride march. Parade festivities include not only the March but pre-parade shows put on by Drag Queens, DJs and other parade goers. Many families attend the parade showing their support to the cause. After the colour and excitement of the big parade there are gay parties all over town - so pace yourself for the roller coaster ride that is Rio de Janeiro.
